Global Affairs

This two-module core course in global affairs examines China鈥檚 emergence as a global actor in international affairs alongside the critical question of how to enhance collective action in the face of multiple transboundary, geopolitical, and planetary crises. The first module on China鈥檚 role in the world focuses on China鈥檚 global interactions and its contemporary policies and practices across diverse regions of the world. The second module on Governing Global Challenges examines major debates over global leadership, governance, and institutions. We then look in greater depth at global issues across six pathways: artificial intelligence, regulation, and ethics; climate change and the global environment; arms control and non-proliferation; global public health; global inequality; and the global governance of migration. The module concludes with student-led panels debating the critical intersections across the six pathways and the implications for global governance.
